Verizon unveils world modem

Verizon Wireless has unveiled the AD3700 mobile broadband USB modem, a world-roaming 3G modem that works in the US and abroad, reports PCMag.

The ZTE-manufactured device hooks onto Verizon`s EV-DO Rev A network, as well as EDGE and HSDPA/UMTS networks overseas.

VZW bundles the unit with connection management software, and the modem can auto-detect the fastest available network at any time, according to Verizon.

Huawei named WiMax vendor

WiMax provider Clearwire added Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies to its vendor mix, states eWeek.

Huawei will supply WiMax radio-access network equipment, including base stations, element management system components, and related network hardware and software.

Clearwire also named several other strategic suppliers for the company`s ambitious WiMax network roll-out plans that will bring 4G wireless service to 80 markets, covering up to 120 million people, by the end of 2010.

Britain publishes digital network plan

The British government released its Digital Britain Implementation Plan, the next step on the road to delivering on the strategy for the UK`s digital future, says Computing.co.uk.

The plan has been put in place to establish the responsibilities and governance structure for completing the key actions laid out in the final Digital Britain report released in June. Although the document gives no new timescales for delivery, it says the government intends to report on progress later this year.

A Digital Economy Bill has been included in the legislative schedule for the next session of parliament, to put in place the legal and regulatory aspects of the plan, such as the 50p per month “broadband tax” on fixed phone lines to generate funds for next-generation network roll-out.
