Connecting to the Internet via dial-up is no longer a popular choice in today's society. But it might be your only option to connect to the Internet if there is no high-speed
Things You'll Need:
- Computer Dial-up Internet service
- Step 1
Clear the cache, cookies, browsing history and temporary Internet files from your Internet browser. All of this information is stored there, which can significantly slow down your Internet browsing speed.
- Step 2
Use a shorter telephone cord to connect from the telephone jack to your modem port. The longer the cord, the further data has to travel through the line, which can also slow down your connection speed.
- Step 3
Check your telephone line for noise. If you pick up your telephone and hear line noise, it could indicate that you have poor line quality. Poor line quality will reduce your connection speed. Contact your local telephone company to check your telephone line for noise.
- Step 4
Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your modem. Contact your computer manufacturer if your are uncertain of whether or not you have the latest drivers.
- Step 5
Keep the number of open browser
windows to a minimum. Only use one browser window unless it is absolutely necessary to open more. - Step 6
Check to ensure that there are no viruses on your computer. Viruses greatly reduce your connection speed. Remove the virus by using virus removal software, such as Norton Antivirus or McAfee Virus Scan.
