How to change Samsung Omnia's cell phone signal and using it as a modem

So I've been using my Samsung Omnia as a modem for some time now and compared with my previous windows mobile device, tethering it to my PC or laptop is quite easy. First off, using your Omnia as a modem with just GSM signal is pretty useless. You might as well use a dial-up connection. So make sure that your cell phone signal is set to receive WCDMA connection only instead of automatic. To do that, you just have to go to settings and select phone under the “personal” tab. Click on the arrow on the bottom right corner until you see the tab labeled “more”. Select “band selection” then click on “get settings...”. Press the drop down menu under “frequency band” and select “WCDMA” connection. Take note that you need to have 3G signal in order for this to work.

Once you've set your Omnia to receive 3G signals only (this is not required but would make surfing easier especially if your Omnia alternates from 2G to 3G signal), you should choose which type of connection you want, Bluetooth or USB. If you choose a USB connection and you have installed activesync on your PC, disable USB connections first on activesync. Then you just have to go to program files and select Internet sharing. Under PC connection, select USB then click on connect.

For Bluetooth connection, it's easier if you have Vista or a USB dongle that's version 2.0. You don't even have to install activesync in order to tether your Omnia. Just pair your PC with your Omnia then go to Internet sharing but this time, select Bluetooth PAN. Click on connect and then on your PC, right click on your Bluetooth icon and select “join a personal area network”. That's it. Very easy.

Now going back to the cell phone signal issue. 2G signals are really sloowww. So if you live in an area where you want to use your Omnia 24/7 as a modem but 3G signals come and go, I suggest you use a cell phone booster that supports WCDMA.

Windows Mobile Phone can become Bluetooth Modem

Windows Mobile Phone can become Bluetooth ModemDo you know that you can easily connect your Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phones and Windows Mobile Smartphones to a Windows PC through the help of Bluetooth. These phones will in fact work as a wireless dial-up modem.

Features Required

  • Windows Mobile device that supports Bluetooth
  • Dial-Up Networking
  • Bluetooth DUN
  • Windows PC Bluetooth-enabled

Recognize the Connection

Every Windows Mobile device functions as a wireless modem if the carrier has not disabled the service. After connecting it to PC, the device connects to wireless service provider’s data network and then provides the internet connection. So, check with your wireless service provider for wireless data plan.

Step 1: Set up a partnership by Bluetooth pairing

Pair the mobile device with your Windows PC or laptop. Power on the Bluetooth of the device and then open the Bluetooth software utility of the PC. After the name of the device appears there then select and click Next. Pair both and enter PIN if required. After the Services menu appears then select on Dial-Up Networking and then click the Finish button.

Step 2: Configuring the Bluetooth Modem

The Bluetooth modem connection is now added to Connect To subscription of Start Menu. Next, click on the new connection. Enter the Username and Password there. Before that click the Properties button. Properties menu is where you configure the connection. That is interfaced to wireless service provider or the ISP. There you have to click the Configure button.

  • Raise the speed to minimum 460000bps. Even enable here the Hardware Flow Control and the Modem Error Control. Next, click OK.
  • After this go back to the Properties menu and enter the dial-up ISP phone number. Then click OK. Note that for wireless carrier’s data network there is a dialing string rather than phone number. For AT&T/Cingular it is *99#.
  • Back in the Connect screen enter Username and Password for your ISP. It is given by the carrier.
  • Next, click Dial to connect.

Step 3: How to use the connection everytime

iPhone tethering: Use Your Phone as a Modem via Bluetooth

I must admit, one of the great things that Apple's OS 3.0 has given iPhone users is how easy it is to connect your iPhone to your PC and use it as a modem. Of course, your network operator needs to have this feature enabled in order for this to work but assuming that your network does, here's the simple 3 step process of tethering your iPhone 3G:

  • Go to Settings->General Settings->Network->Internet Tethering, and turn it on.
  • Next go to Settings->General settings->Bluetooth, and turn it on. On your desktop PC, right click on the Bluetooth icon on your system tray then click add device. Pair your iPhone with your PC.
  • After successful pairing, right click on the Bluetooth icon, select join a personal area network, select your iPhone and click connect.
It's that easy. I don't even have to install iTunes on my PC in order for tethering to work. A word of advice though, if the option: Internet Tethering does not appear or suddenly disappears on your Network settings, it may be because your APN is wrong. You have to reset your network settings by going to General Settings and browsing till the bottom to get to the reset tab. If you got your iPhone 3G with a mobile phone contract your phone should automatically detect your network settings

Yesterday I was so busy until no time for writing. Well, now I am more relaxed Untk writing. Yesterday, I bought a modem, a network for GPRS / EDGE, HSDPA / UMTS. The plan will be the modem I use for my father HALO card a few days already in hand.

Modem Brand is Vodafone. The following is a picture while still in the box.

Modem, Manual, Driver CD and USB to miniUSB cable. Unfortunately her CD've not original anymore from there. for some reason, maybe the original was damaged and replaced so. oiya, I bought his modem was the price of Rp. Jt 1.5. expensive times yah ...

Why did I buy a modem that?

several factors that I am about this modem because the modem was imported from Germany (Vodafone Mbok ..) and the second that I like from this modem is that he has a plug or external antenna jack. cool right ..? liat aja nih image.

modem4

After I Install modem drivers and colokin it to the laptop, it almost immediately without having to set stuff. it's easier than using a modem using HP as a modem.

modem3

Picture above is the display when the modem to work with GPRS option. seen that the signal is shown very well.

Telkomsel GPRS

Picture above is a picture of DU Meter for Telkomsel GPRS connection speed. Kencengnya accordance with the GPRS technology itself. from several experiments, like the blank GPRS connection, or freeze for a few minutes of usage. was not friendly when using it to download large files without the downloader client.

****

Because of the position of my house less time testing its UMTS network is stable, then I intend to go to the middle of town. My target is the Mega Mall A. Yani. had reached the area of mega-mall, I went up to floor 2. wide and can seat empty.

I immediately modem plug, and I connect to the network telkomsel. Aha, it signals a UMTS connection on the mega mall A.yani really good. The following pictures that I got the signal from the modem.

modem5

I test the connection by downloading the Flash files. The following graphs generated by the program my DU Meter.

telkomsel UTMS

Browsing results and graphs blogwalking

Flash 2

Picture above, is the image file Downlaod. Hmm .. I think the match was a Flash package offered, up to 256 kbps with 125 money ppn10% rb + cheap enough for virtually instant connection now.

Final value of this trial, I say for now I SATISFIED. Suggestions for the telkomsel, hopefully its 3G network in the expanded again. not only in the middle of the city are able to enjoy this 3G.

Bee Zyrex 103G With 3G Modem

Zyrex Bee 103GThese days more and more netbooks that includes an internal cellular modem as a standard completeness. If last month we tested U120H MSI Wind, this time we were coming Zyrex Bee 103G. Modem is located behind the battery, and embedded deep within so that we do not know the brand of modem. But certainly, this modem works on the path and supports standard GSM HSDPA (3.5 G).

When we tried to use Axis network, internal modem successfully 103G Zyrex Bee 0.25 MBps speed record for a local server. In comparison, the test with an external modem Huawei 160G recorded 0.29 MBps. Thus, the quality of the internal modem can be relied upon.

Outside the presence of 3G modem, for ... this netbook also has some features that are rarely met in other netbooks. The first is a Bluetooth facility, while the second facility is a dial-up modem. We're not sure the last facility is still some use, but this netbook at least provides a variety of connection options.

If the side of outstanding facilities, the performance of this netbook is practically no different from the netbook available today. This can not be separated from the combination of standard components used by the majority of the current netbook, namely the Intel Atom N270 processor, Intel 945GME chipset, 1GB DDR2 memory, PC800, and the 160GB IDE hard drive. When compared with the MSI U1000X, we can see the equivalent performance.

Likewise in the endurance test in the battery mode. Although using size 3600mAh battery (under the MSI using 4400mAh battery), this netbook can last about 3 hours when playing 720p HD video. Note at this time entered the ranks of top class of all the netbooks we've ever tested.

But about wearing comfort, 103G Zyrex Bee is quite inconvenient. The main problem is the size of its keyboard keys are seemed very small. If counted, the size is only about 16x12 mm with a distance of less than 2 mm. Compare with HP Mininote - ternyaman current netbooks - which has a keyboard key sizes around 17x16 mm. Because of the size and spacing of the keys are too close, we were difficulties reaching speeds of our standard type. As a result, one push and one type is a common problem.

Beyond that, we did not see a problem in terms of wear comfort. His touchpad was responsive, so that was easy to navigate the entire contents of the screen. Monitor is also able to provide accurate color, although vieweing on the vertical angle was narrow. But with the weight of 1.4 pounds, this netbook is relatively heavy compared to other netbooks.

***

Thanks to the presence of cellular modem in it, Zyrex Bee 103G is a practical mobile devices and can be relied upon when traveling. The price itself around Rp. 5.2 million, so it is still slightly more expensive than the combination of netbook Zyrex "plain" (U.S. $ 4 million) and an external modem (less than Rp. 1 million). So depending on your taste: a practical or economically?

Test Results

Worthy opponent Bee Zyrex U100X MSI 103G is equally have a modem facilities 3.5 G. And both are equal, seen from the results of different testing thin. To be noted is achieved Zyrex time though only 3 hours using a 3600 mAh battery.
