Problem Description
The product release instruction (PRI) programmed in the modem does not match the PRI accepted by Cisco IOS®. This mismatch results in an unrecognized modem when it is installed into the 880G series routers.
This is a Cisco IOS problem on the 880G series routers, and DDTS CSCth51125 (registered customers only) was created for this issue.
Background
Upon insertion of the PCEX-3G-HSPA-R6 modem into an 880G series router, the modem appears in the associated cellular interface CLI as MODEM_NOT_RECOGNIZED
due to a bug (CSCth51125) in Cisco IOS.
This issue will happen 100% of the time when inserting this modem into an 880G series router that runs Cisco IOS 15.1(1)T.
This issue will be fixed in Cisco IOS 15.1(1)T1.
Problem Symptoms
None of the PCEX-3G-HSPA-R6 modems will be recognized in the 880G series routers cellular interface due to invalid Cisco IOS PRI checking with mismatch program value.
Here is the output to look for when the router boots up with the modem installed: Router>
*Jun 24 10:01:39.927: %CISCO800-2-MODEM_NOT_RECOGNIZED: Cellular0 modem not RECOGNIZED.
Carrier id not available or invalid! Replace it with Cisco supported modem and
reload the router.
*Jun 24 10:01:39.959: %CELL_MSG-1-MODEM_ACK_FAIL: [Cellular0] Modem Ack not received.
Router>
*Jun 24 10:14:10.107: %CELL_MSG-1-DMA_TX_FAILURE: HWIC cellular DMA transmit failure for
NM slot 0 HWIC slot 0, dma_q_type 1. Unable to send the packet.
Workaround/Solution
Workaround:
In order to resolve the issue, the customer must contact TAC and upgrade the affected 880G series routers to a supported engineering build. Once the Cisco IOS 15.1(1)T1 is released on 7/16/2010, the 880G series router must then be upgraded to Cisco IOS 15.1(1)T1.
Note: Support for the engineering build will end once Cisco IOS 15.1(1)T1 is released.
Solution:
Upgrade affected 880G series routers to Cisco IOS 15.1(1)T1 or later.
