Sprint bolstered its 4G modem mix on Tuesday by adding a new, straightforward 4G modem. The unbranded U1901 provides WiMAX alone but is designed to work out of the box for both Intel Macs and Windows users through a disc-free install. It has two antenna ports to boost reception in a docking cradle and has a rotating USB connector to fit into the MacBook Air and other notebooks with a tight fit.
As with other modems on Sprint's 4G network, typical download speeds hover between 3Mbps to 6Mbps. Sprint hasn't said how much the U1901 costs but is making it available today.
